Microsoft Programming languages and frameworks

1. Active Directory

2. Activex

Created by Microsoft, ActiveX is one of the most popular software frameworks. ActiveX is built on the Component Object Model (COM) and uses Object Linking and Embedding technologies. It is adaptable to contents downloaded from the network ( especially the World Wide Web). One of the major drawbacks of ActiveX is that it is not operable in all platforms because it is written in C and C++ programming language ( these languages are platform-dependent) and is compiled in the Intel x86 Assembly language. Some of the software platforms built with the help of ActiveX objects are Active Scripting, ActiveX Document, Active messaging, Active Server Pages etc.

3. Wpf

Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) is a part of .NET which is built on a unified programming model and attracts developers for building line-of-business desktop client applications on the Windows operating system. It is a graphical subsystem and was developed by Microsoft. Windows Presentation Foundation is a resolution-independent and vector-based rendering engine which brings in the advantage of modern graphics hardware to the developers. Developers can easily import elements of .NET API as WPF forms a part of .NET.

The application-development of features provided by WPF includes Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML), controls, data binding, layout, 2D and 3D graphics, animation, styles, templates, documents, media, text, typography, etc

4. Wcf

Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) is a set of API in the .NET framework which is popular among the developers for building connected and service-oriented applications. WCF is designed service-oriented architecture principles and supports distributed computing. Through distributed computing WCF provides multiple services to remote users. WCF provides various web services standards like WS-Addressing, WS-ReliableMessaging, and WS-Security.

WCF now also provides some additional services like RSS Syndication Services, WS-Discovery, routing and better support for the REST services. WCF is interoperable with WCF applications running on the same or different Windows machines.

5. Linq

Language-Integrated Query (LINQ) is a collection of technologies that are based on the integration of query capabilities directly into the C# language. It forms a component of .NET frameworks and is developed by Microsoft. In LINQ like classes, methods, events, a query forms a first-class language construct with strongly typed collections. In LINQ the queries can be written in C# and VB.NET language for XML documents, SQL Server databases, ADO.NET Datasets, and collection of objects that supports IEnumerable.
